Kai wins the GSP Science Fair

On Saturday, Kai won the Grand Prize in the Greene Scholars Program's Annual Science Fair for his grade level. Held at Stanford University, the GSP Science Fair & Expo drew students from all over the Bay Area to compete. In its 18th year, the GSP Science Fair is the largest African American science fair in California. Young scholars spend weeks of research, experimentation, and analysis before showcasing their projects at the fair.

Kai's project compared a mechanized kinetic launcher (aka Nerf blaster) to a magnetic linear accelerator that he built. Among other things, Kai's project utilized the formula for speed and ratios for scaling and comparison.

Kai has good reason to be proud of his accomplishment. Last year was Kai's first science fair, and he did not even place. When he left the fair in 2019 he may have been sad but he was also determined. Kai told his parents he was going to win the fair in 2020 - and he did! Kai reflected on his experience, saying, “Being part of a science fair is tiring but hard work pays off.” His parents are very proud of him and all of us at KLS are proud as well. Well done Kai!
