Student Wellbeing

At Khan Lab School, student wellbeing and academic growth go hand in hand. Our approach evolves across divisions—from building foundations in Lower School to co-creating support systems in Upper School.

Lower School students

Lower School

Building Foundations for Wellbeing. Advisors lead Morning Meetings, guide social-emotional learning, and support goal setting—cultivating confidence, self-awareness, and ownership of learning.

  • Morning Meeting: Daily community time to greet, share, and build belonging.
  • SEL Throughout the Day: Emotions, empathy, collaboration, and conflict resolution integrated across routines and projects.
  • Mindfulness & Self-Regulation: Breathing, movement breaks, and age-appropriate strategies.
  • Family Partnership: Consistent home–school communication and shared expectations.
Middle School students

Middle School

Fostering Academic Success and Personal Growth. Students receive personalized support in advisory groups (8–10), strengthening relationships and keeping families closely connected.

  • Life Skills Lab: SEL + practical skills (financial literacy, time management, communication), with Council practices and health/digital media modules.
  • Goal Time: At least two hours weekly for self-paced work with targeted support.
  • Analog Hour: Weekly screen-free creative time (reading, games, instruments, Imagination Lab).
  • Personal Expeditions: Advisor-guided, passion-led projects building self-direction and project management.
Upper School students

Upper School

Co-Designing Student Support Systems. Advisory is the home base—mentors, advocates, and primary family contacts ensure students are known deeply and supported fully as they prepare for life beyond KLS.

  • Student-Driven Advisory Design: Co-created annually through senior-led workshops and feedback.
  • Grade-Level Focus: 9th—executive function & habits; 10th—interpersonal skills & healthy relationships; 11th—real-world skills; 12th—mentorship & leadership.
  • Peer-Led Workshops: Seniors share practical wisdom with underclassmen.
  • Authentic Reflection & Growth: Council circles, service, journaling, and real-world application.
