For Sal Khan, It's About Much More Than Math Videos 

The voice on the phone is strangely familiar. It has the same calm cadence that has come to the rescue of countless parents, frustrated by their kids' math homework, who've thrown up their hands and exclaimed: "Go check Khan Academy!"

Salman "Sal" Khan, who first created a website 14 years ago to tutor his cousin in math, is the voice behind the vast majority of Khan Academy's math and science videos, and he still makes two or more most days. 

But while the videos may be Khan's claim to fame, they're a small part of Khan's Academy's ambitious mission -- "to provide a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere" -- and Khan's goal of revolutionizing education by creating ways for students to learn at their own pace, and move on only when they've mastered the material.

Khan is applying that philosophy in multiple ways: through Khan Academy, which has grown exponentially to more than 18 million monthly users worldwide in a variety of subjects from pre-K to college; by collaborating with schools and districts who use the online site to help address students' differing needs, and at the Khan Lab School, an experimental year-round school entering its sixth year at Khan Academy's Mountain View headquarters...
